Epson Power Conversion has introduced the EPC9115 demo board, which supports an input voltage range of 48 V to 60 V and is turned to 12 V with 42 A output current. It uses EPC2020 (60 V) and EPC2021 (80 V) enhanced gallium nitride (eGaN?) power transistors, Texas Instruments' LM5113 half-bridge driver and UCC27611 low-side driver. The power stage uses a conventional hard-switch and an isolated buck converter with a 300kHz switching frequency.

1/4 brick performance in an industry standard 1/8 brick format

The entire converter can be placed in a 1/8 brick size, except that the EPC9115 demo board is specifically sized to allow for connection and bench evaluation. The design includes individual holes to help design engineers easily perform simple waveform measurements and computational efficiency.

The EPC9115 uses a full-bridge primary power stage, 4:1 transformer, center-tap output stage with an active reset buffer and uses the Microchip dsPIC? family of controllers and basic voltage mode control. Compared to other commercial devices of the same type, the EPC9115 can operate at 300 kHz with a switching frequency of 50% to 100% higher.

Alex Lidow, co-founder and CEO of Epson Power Conversion, said: "The EPC9115 demo board delivers 500 W DC/DC converter performance in an industry-standard 1/8 brick converter size. eGaN FETs drive industry adoption This unprecedented power density."

The EPC9115 demo board is priced at $812.50 and can be purchased online at Digikey: http://?lang=en.
