US company: White LED products with GaN substrate

A US company recently introduced a white-light LED lighting product based on GaN-on-Silicon, manufactured by Plessey, model MAGIC PLW111010 PLCC-2 SMT. These silicon-on-silicon (GaN-on-Silicon) LEDs are the first lighting products to be commercialized on a 6-inch GaN-on-Silicon substrate. According to reports, these products have a production capacity of more than 95%, with shorter processing time, can provide a more significant cost advantage than sapphire LED, based on silicon carbide LED solutions, especially suitable for a wide range of industry standard solid state Lighting and indicator applications.

This product is designed for ambient decorative lighting and automotive interior applications. According to Pleas and its distributor Saelig, the SMT package is an excellent choice for applications such as backlight panel panels and logos, decorative lighting, LCD backlighting, lighting signs, navigation and audio system backlighting, and large screen displays.

This product has a 465nm blue emitter with fluorescence divergence and can provide a near-Lambertian light pattern of 360mcd~1080mcd. On the production assembly line, 2000 rolls of LEDs are packaged together to ensure the best light intensity and color. At a maximum current of 25 mA, the LED has a forward voltage drop of only 3.8V.

It is understood, Pulai Si using standard semiconductor fabrication processes to produce such products led lighting, similar to the use of ordinary silicon carbide or sapphire LED lighting technology in terms of advantages as compared to more cost. MAGIC LEDs are fabricated on a 6-inch silicon substrate using a 2.5 um thin gallium nitride (GaN) layer. Engineering samples of new products are now available and volume production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

Incremental Encoder

Incremental encoders provide speed, direction and relative position feedback by generating a stream of binary pulses proportional to the rotation of a motor or driven shaft. Lander offers both optical and magnetic incremental encoders in 4 mounting options: shafted with coupling, hollow-shaft, hub-shaft or bearingless. Single channel incremental encoders can measure speed which dual channel or quadrature encoders (AB) can interpret direction based on the phase relationship between the 2 channels. Indexed quadrature encoders (ABZ) are also available for homing location are startup.
