Today, Heliatek and the Charente Provincial Government of France held an unveiling ceremony for the world's largest building integrated organic photovoltaic (BiOPV) roof installation project. Solaritek's 500 m2 solar film was installed on the roof of the Pierre Mendes France secondary school in La Rochelle, France. Nearly 400 solar films ranging in length from 2 meters, 4 meters to 5.7 meters were used in record. This has created the world's largest architectural integrated organic photovoltaic roof installation project to date, and demonstrated that these solar films can be installed in an easy and fast manner.
Heliatek's HeliaSol® "ready-to-use" solar films were used for the first time in roof installations. With adhesive and pre-configured wiring on the back, HeliaSol® can be mounted directly on the existing roof surface, simply by connecting the wires. Taking into account the preparation time, six people only need eight hours to install 500 square meters of HeliaSol® solar film, and it takes only more than two minutes to install a solar film. The new project has an installed capacity of 22,500 peak watts and generates approximately 23.8 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, which is equivalent to approximately 15% of the electricity demand of Pierre Mendes France Middle School.
HeliaSol® is a "ready-to-use" solar product solution for the roof and facade renovation market. HeliaSol® is suitable for all energy-saving projects, and restrictions on weight, load, accessibility, insulation, warranty, or roof penetration play a role in the product selection of these projects. The new French installation project is the first step toward preparing for entry into the general market.
Heliatek looks forward to the development of the market and has increased the requirement to integrate the existing building surface into the building's energy system. Thiabaud LeSeguillon, Chief Executive Officer of Heliatek, stated: “Lightweight roofs usually do not support standard photovoltaic technology, but now we can use our HeliaSol® solar film to generate green electricity. Thanks to our strong partner and investor ENGIE, we can implement this quickly. Exciting project."
ENGIE is a leader in the transformation of the energy industry. Isabelle Kocher, CEO of ENGIE, said: “Renewable energy is an integral part of our energy decarbonization, decentralization, and digitization strategy. Almost half of our energy consumption comes from the construction industry. Originally it could not be used for energy production, but it will meet its own power needs. With Heliatek's technology, they will contribute to decentralized green energy supply."
