Top banks such as Goldman Sachs and UBS have begun using a machine learning technology support platform to monitor illegal insider trading activities. This platform debuted in the 911 accident 15 years ago and helped the U.S. government fight terrorists.
The company, called Digital Reasoning, has helped "more than half of Wall Street firms are discovering the potential threat of insider trading," said Kiran Narsu, vice president of business sales at the company.
The machine learning platform developed by Digital Reasoning Company can establish a language learning mode, instead of simply identifying keywords. It can identify the bank's insider trading and price manipulation behavior more intelligently than traditional tools. It truly understands the user's request on the basis of the knowledge map. It is no longer sticking to the user's input of the request statement itself, but through the phenomenon itself. Look at the essence, accurately capture the true intention behind the user's input statement, and use this to search and mine, so as to more accurately feedback the results to the user. The smart platform was even trained to recognize the abuse of transactions, collusion between the government and business, and market manipulation.
"It is not easy to identify the languages of these illegal traders. Because most traditional institutions are only searching for keywords, the language has many meanings. For example, I said I want to know that there is an Oscar movie Which scenes use the word 'fix'. It may appear when you 'repair' something, or it may be that you're setting a cup of coffee for a friend."
"Our software can reduce false information by 70%." Narsu said, "With machine learning technology, we can judge people's implication. For example, when people want to express a bragging state, they don't have to say ' I'm bragging about it or some other specific word, it can be a bunch of information, and then our machine can read this out of it."
This big data analysis tool and technology, combined with text mining, machine learning, and ontology modeling, has become the first line of defense for security threat prediction, detection, and early stage prevention. Data analysis and improved collaboration can reduce the cumbersomeness of the intelligence investigation process so that organizations can more easily detect potential security threats.
In fact, the first appearance of Digital Reasoning was in the 911 incident. At the time, the company was helping the government arrest terrorists on the Internet. Almost all of the information on these networks uses some code to hide its true meaning, thus forcing Digital Reasoning to use more intelligent language.
However, in the post-financial crisis era, banks have gradually seen the ability to monitor machine learning. In financial markets where law-abiding costs are higher, the burden of supervision is also increasing. The use of machine learning technology to supervise banks also means that our regulatory system will become more intelligent in the future, and it will no longer be a simple way to save money.
Recently, Digital Reasoning also cooperated with Nasdaq of the United States to help them build tools to monitor the capital market. Nasdaq invested 40 million U.S. dollars in May this year.
Narsu said that cooperation with financial services companies has become the “brightest†part of Digital Reasoning’s revenue.
