The first case of criminal suspects arrested using intelligent routing gateway: criminal traffic hijacking

On the morning of May 15, the Shanghai Xuhui Public Prosecutor's Office approved the arrest of the first criminal suspect in the city who was using a smart routing gateway device to hijack traffic.

After investigation, from February to March 2018, the suspect Zhang used network technology to invade more than 20 intelligent routing gateway devices and implanted worms in the country, and redirected end-users to contact the public network through the above devices. Go to their designated gambling site to extract traffic agency fees from them. Only one day before Zhang was arrested, through an intelligent routing gateway device of Shanghai Network Technology Co., Ltd., the Internet data of 38,194 different computer system devices across the country was revised.

The intelligent routing gateway has two functions of the smart home control hub and wireless router. The mobile phone, tablet, and various devices can easily control the home appliances and smart home hub devices. Once hackers attack our wireless routers, we can intercept the information we send to the Internet and interpret the personal accounts, passwords, and other information. And hackers will enter the background of our router's system, change our DNS server parameters, mislead us to visit phishing sites built by hackers, and give away personal information.

At present, some anti-virus software vendors have also begun to introduce new services to improve this phenomenon. For example, a security device that can access the router and monitor the sending and receiving data in real time can block most of the network attacks. There are also security-oriented wireless routing products that use a stronger form of encryption or cloud technology to identify and block hackers.

It is also worth noting that the system back-end and wireless passwords must use complex passwords and often check the list of access devices to avoid the intrusion of strange devices.
