Quantum LED 3D printing debut contact lens is expected to integrate display

The project was led by Michael McAlpine, head of the research team at Princeton University in Princeton, USA. The team successfully used its printer to print out quantum dot LEDs (QLEDs). Mai El Pine and his team shared 5 layers to print LEDs. The bottom layer is silver nanoparticles, which are mainly used for metal conduits on circuit boards. The outermost two layers are cathodes made of eutectic gallium.

“What we’re showing here is another way to integrate electronics and take 3D space into it,” said Yong Lin Kong, another head of the project team. “This is the world’s first true 3D full-featured electronic device. print."

Potential applications for this technology include wearable devices such as contact lenses (provided, of course, that the team can find ways to add power to the motherboard). In addition, the team will also develop features that include 3D printed transistors.
