Britain will replace incandescent bulbs with low-energy bulbs

British Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary Hilary Benn announced on the 27th that the UK will gradually replace high-energy incandescent bulbs with low-energy bulbs next year to save electricity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

As a non-binding agreement between the government and light bulb manufacturers, retailers, and power supply departments, the goal of this light bulb phase-out plan is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5 million tons per year by reducing electricity consumption in 2012.

Hilary Ben said: "I am very happy that many large companies have indicated that they will help implement this ambitious timetable and provide customers with energy-saving products that will also take responsibility for preventing climate change...but the store is still Selling other power-hungry lighting appliances, I hope to expand the scope of this energy-saving initiative."

Reuters reported that fluorescent bulbs consume only 20% of incandescent bulbs. According to the UK Energy Conservation Trust, daily lighting power accounts for about 10% to 15% of the total household electricity consumption in the UK. Switching to low-energy light bulbs is one of the most energy-saving ways people are most likely to accept, second only to cycling.

British environmentalists have welcomed the plan and believe that the government's pace of eliminating incandescent bulbs can be faster.
