Summary:

The LT4363 surge suppressor protects the load from high voltage transients. It can regulate the output during overvoltage conditions (such as load dump in automotive applications) by controlling the gate of an external N-channel MOSFET. The output is limited to a safe value, allowing the load to continue to operate. The LT4363 also monitors the voltage drop between the SNS and OUT pins to protect against overcurrent faults. An internal amplifier is used to limit the voltage across the current sense resistor to 50mV. Regardless of the fault condition, the start of the timer is inversely proportional to the MOSFET stress. The FLT pin will be pulled low before the timer expires to issue a "coming power off" warning. If this condition persists, the MOSFET will turn off. The LT4363-1 remains off before reset, while the LT4363-2 restarts after a cool cycle.
