iPad 2 with dual-core GPU?

Although many people believe that Apple will not be listed on the iPad for only one year, the screen resolution will be modified in the first upgrade of the second-generation product. However, all parties recently reported that the iPad 2 will use the "Retina" retina screen, which means that the resolution will be greatly improved.

When Apple released the iPhone 4, it defined the "Retina" retina screen, which means that the pixel density is higher than 300dpi, which has exceeded the limits of human eye retina imaging, and the naked eye can not completely distinguish the pixels. If this standard, iPad 9.7-inch screen resolution will reach 2560x1920. We have never heard of any LCD makers capable of producing such high-resolution small and medium-sized screens.

Recently, some media pointed out that the "Retina" retinal screen is a standard that cannot be resolved by the human eye, rather than a mechanical 300 dpi. Therefore, since the iPad tablet has a longer viewing distance than the iPhone, the pixel density can still be referred to as a retinal screen.

The current information shows that the iPad 2 may use a screen resolution of 2048x1536, which is 2 times the length and width of the first generation 1024x768 screen, and the pixel density is about 260dpi. This approach is similar to the iPhone 4's Retina screen resolution increased from 480x320 to 960x640, the original application will not appear after the enlarged display image distortion problem.

Some developers have discovered that the Apple iBooks 1.1 software already contains a bookmark icon file for high-resolution screens. Among them, the icon file corresponding to the iPhone 4 high-definition screen is called iPhonex2, and at the same time it also contains an iPadx2 file, which is probably prepared for the iPad 2. Later, another developer discovered that the resolution of the background image in iBooks 1.2 has been increased from 768x400 to 1536x800, which is also a double improvement.

In addition, spare parts supplier GlobalDirectParts claims that they have got the iPad 2's LCD screen accessories, priced at 218.19 US dollars, much higher than the first generation of iPad screen 63.35 US dollars. Although there is a suspicion that "exotic goods can be located", the cost of the iPad 2 screen is much higher than the first-generation products.

In order to respond to high resolution screens, the graphics performance of the iPad 2 must also be upgraded accordingly. Current news that the iPad 2 (and iPhone 5) will use dual-core PowerVR SGX543 GPU. Currently, the Apple A4 processor graphics core on the iPhone 4/iPad is PowerVR SGX535. According to its developer Imagination, the PowerVR SGX543 has twice the performance of the SGX535, and Apple will use the SGX543MP2, which integrates two SGX543 cores and doubles the performance. This dual-core GPU is likely to be integrated into an Apple A5 processor that also has a Cortex-A9 dual-core CPU.

Finally, on the website of the American electrical appliance retailer Bestbuy, three mysterious new models of the iPad have been listed, priced at 599.99 US dollars or 699.99 US dollars, but were deleted shortly thereafter. Maybe this is what the pre-listed retailers of the iPad 2 did on the shelves.
