On March 24, 2010, Vice Minister Cao Jianlin of the Ministry of Science and Technology met with Mr. Michael Petras, President of GE Lighting Group of the United States. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening scientific and technological cooperation in the field of semiconductor lighting in China and the United States.
Vice Minister Cao pointed out that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the rapid development of the energy-saving lighting industry, and the Ministry of Science and Technology has implemented the “Ten Cities and Ten Thousand Cities†semiconductor lighting application project. The “Twelfth Five-Year†technology development plan under development is listed as one of the strategic emerging industries supported by semiconductor lighting. He hopes that GE will further expand cooperation with Chinese industry, academia and research circles in this field.
Mr. Petras told GE to establish a cooperation model based on the application of LED lighting products in China, and communicated and cooperated with many pilot cities of “Ten Cities and Ten Thousand Cities†on market, technology and production. Mr. Petras expressed his willingness to strengthen cooperation with China in specific areas such as LED street lighting, incandescent lamp replacement products and horticultural lighting.
